About
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is the UK’s leading children’s hospital and receives more than 200,000 patient visits every year from children all over the UK and the world. Like Arsenal, we are a world renowned, national institution based in London. We have more specialties under one roof than any other hospital, with doctors working closely with the research team at the Institute of Child Health to find new ways of providing treatment for rare, complex and often life-threatening conditions.
Whilst the medical care is second to none and the treatment offered is at the very leading edge of paediatric care, much of the hospital was built in the 1930’s and does not provide the facilities our doctors and nurses need to continue to look after such seriously ill children. GOSH is now at the outset of a redevelopment programme, which will transform its most out-dated buildings into world-class facilities, fully equipped to tackle the gravest threats to child health throughout the 21st century. The redevelopment will also allow us to treat 20% more young patients from across the country every year.
Arsenal hopes to raise £500,000 helping Great Ormond Street Hospital to build a new Lung Function Unit for children who have difficulty breathing or sleeping. The Lung Function Unit currently sees over 2,000 children a year and is an essential part of the care for children who have a range of different conditions including asthma, wheezing, cystic fibrosis and cancer.
The work undertaken at Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Lung Function Unit is amongst the best in the world. However, the laboratory space is far from ideal with cramped and outdated facilities. The new unit has been designed to provide a well planned, modern and spacious environment in which to treat children and their families. It will help newborn babies right through to teenagers with areas designed specially for patients to include play facilities. The new Arsenal Lung Function Unit will be located within the new clinical building at Great Ormond Street Hospital and will open in 2012.
Together we will be raising money throughout the season through a range of initiatives. As well as encouraging fans to donate and take part in events and challenges, this site will include lots of ideas so do check the site regularly and don't forget to press the donate button!
Thank you.
